Gandante

Ghent, a shining example – including a visit at the city.
Our guide takes you along the different light installations and explains on the road the works of art and the artists who created them. The history of light in the city will also be explained to the audience.

Where can you find a unique variation of 1000 years of architectural styles combined with contemporary art of light? Correct, in the City of Ghent. The light plan has been especially designed for the city. Inspired on the introvert, simple personality of the city the light plan has been entirely integrated in the new urban development planning. But the request to illuminate the city is not new. Ever since the Middle-Ages people have been looking for an acceptable solution. Old and new interventions are put into the spotlights.

The guided tour end on top of the Belfry from where you have a splendid and unique view over the illuminated city and the different light installations.

For this guided tour groups can book their own guide.

When: Thurs 26 Jan, Fri 27 Jan, Sat 28 Jan and Sun 29 Jan 2012

You need to be present in Ghent between May 12th and September 16th for Track.

Track is a municipal exhibition which creates an artistic track through the city of Ghent from May 12th to September 16th 2012. The curators invite about thirty artists – both international famous names and promising young talent – to infiltrate in six characteristic quarters.
With TRACK the S.M.A.K. museum continues the tradition of large-scale projects outside the museum walls such as ‘Chambres d’Amis’ (1986) and ‘Over the Edges’ (2000). In the wake of the S.M.A.K. museum various Ghent museums and (socio-) cultural organisations join the project in order to create an interesting cross-pollination  with similar events.
